Requirements

Now that we have looked at different courses that fall under mechanical engineering, the question one usually ask who wants to study towards Mechanical Engineering N2 is ‘what are the requirements?

Requirements for Mechanical Engineering

  • Having passed N1 in similar subjects. The simplest way to meet the Mechanical Engineering N2 Requirements is to have initially done your N1 studies in similar studies. The N1 lays a good foundation for you to move to the next level of N2.
  • Having passed Grade 11 in Pure Mathematics and Physical Science or other Technical related subjects. N2 studies are equivalent to grade 11, and having passed Grade 11 at high school makes you qualify to do your N2. I will be quick however to tell you that these questions or requirements are not per say needed as proof but only to ensure that the prior knowledge of the student is known so as to know where to start you from. For example, you will find a student who did Grade 12 and passed, studying Mechanical Engineering and starting from N1. That is not necessary and it is a waste of the student’s time.
  • Having passed your matric (Grade 12) long time say about 10 years ago and you want to further your studies and do N4-N6. At times it will be much better to refresh your mind with N2 studies.
  • Having passed your matric (Grade 12) but you did Mathematics Literacy instead of pure maths. Without pure mathematics background, the Engineering studies will give you challenges. It is therefore advisable for such a person to start from N1.
  • If you do not have any experience at all we suggest starting from N1.

Remember, it is possible to start from N2 directly should you insist in spite of the advice being given, however the above are given to assist the student so that they do not face frustrations in their studies.
