Technical Matric N3 National Senior certificate is being discontinued by the end of 2020. The current status quo from the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) and Umalusi is the Technical Matric N3 will be phased out by January 2021. This means that there will be no registrations for Technical Matric N3 from January 2021.
What is actually being phased out
Two qualify for a Technical Matric N3 certificate, you need to pass six subjects. Four of the subjects are subjects under N3 and the last two subjects are compulsory languages. The two languages are Business English and Sake Afrikaans.
The two languages are actually the ones being phased out. DHET and Umalusi are discontinuing the two compulsory languages and automatically this results in the Matric certificate falling away. The students who want to do N3 certificate which is made up of four N3 subjects can still continue their studies as these are not affected. It is the students who want to add on top of their N3 certificate the two languages that converts it to a National Senior Certificate that is being changes.
Way forward-a new matric certificate on the way
There is a new matric on the horizon which is called National Senior Certificate for Adults (NASCA). DHET and Umalusi are still working on this new curriculum and it will be the new matric students out of school must do. NASCA will replace both the Technical Matric N3 as well as the Amended Senior certificate that is also currently being offered in Abet centres.
Registration for NASCA (National Senior Certificate for Adults)
We will be opening registrations for NASCA very soon once the DHET and Umalusi gives a green light. In the meantime familiarise yourself with the new matric here.
